Q: What should I do to prepare my area before GreenPatch arrives?
A: This is the most important part in hydroseeding. The top soil needs to be loose and have texture. The top 2 inches (4-5cm) must be loosened to accept good penetration of our slurry spray. You should be able to push your finger in easily past your fingernail. If it rains before we hydroseed and the top layer gets crusty you must rake to loosen the crust. The use of bobcat equipment generally makes the surface too compact with out a rake attachment. We need dry soil to hydroseed into for the slurry to effectively incorporate. Also any weed growth beforehand must be taken care of.
Q: When should I Hydroseed?
A: GreenPatch can hydroseed after the last frost in spring to late fall dormant applications. April- November. There are pre-cautions in any season to be aware of. Spring hydroseeding will produce great results. Although the ground temperature must be at least a constant 50 degree Fahrenheit (10 Celsius) or slow germination occurs. Mid summer applications are very effective too, but only if strict watering practices are followed due to hot dry weather. In the Fall you will need to consider hydroseeding at least 5 weeks before freeze up so the grass can grow strong enough for over wintering. Also we do Dormant Hydroseeding in the late fall. The grass seed will lay dormant and be ready for the spring to germinate.
Q: What do I do after the area has been hydroseeded?
A: Let the mulch/seed blend set/dry for 12 - 24 hours. Then water to keep evenly moist. An automatic sprinkler system will guarantee best results of 15 - 20 minuet intervals. DO NOT OVER WATER. Watering too much is as bad as not water at all. So just keep everything moist not soaked . You may have to water 3-4 times a day, depending on temperature until the seeds germinate in the first 10-14 days. Do not water before nightfall as this can introduce diseases and mold. Cut back on watering frequency after the grass has come up, usually in 2 weeks. Then water 20-30 minuets once daily to make the roots chase the water deep. After 3-4 weeks back off on watering to 3 times a week with an inch soaking. But watch for sighs of stress from lack of water. Mow when the grass reaches 7-9 cm and only down to 5-6 cm. Leave the clippings. After 4-5 weeks apply fertilizer suitable for new growth. Please read the warranty and feel free to call us with any concerns. GreenPatch will provide a CARE sheet for you to follow after hydroseeding.
Q: Can I walk on my new lawn?
A: Yes, but only for watering. The new growth is fragile to traffic. If the mulch is disturbed it will pull at the new grass roots which are trying to get established. No heavy traffic for up to 4-5 weeks.
Q: Are the products used safe for my children and pets?
A: Yes, all the ingredients are inert. Not harmful to people, pets or the environment.
